SmartNodes Akash Cloud Provider
Cloud computing is a big business. It is undeniably one of the most important innovations of recent history and much of the modern internet wouldn’t be the same without it. Rightly so, the cloud computing sector is estimated to be worth over $330 billion and growing rapidly. Currently, “Big Cloud” providers like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft Design dominate the cloud computing market. In fact, nearly one-third of the whole web is hosted on Amazon AWS.
Akash Network aims to break up this massive centralization of cloud services and at a fraction of the cost. Akash DeCloud, the Decentralized Cloud, is a marketplace for providers to connect with developers and publishers seeking to rent server space. Providers can use Akash to leverage underutilized cloud capacity in an efficient and secure manner.
The Akash token, $AKT, is used as the payment method on the network. A developer seeking server space can receive bids from providers at a set rate. However not all providers will have the same technical specs, so the user has their choice of different specs and price points.
The more Akash providers in different locations around the world, the more options users have and the more decentralized and secure the network is. So we decided to set up an Akash DeCloud provider.
SmartNodes is always looking for ways to support the community and the projects we validate. We want to be more than just a faceless validator. We strive to provide real value and benefits to our delegators and the community at large.
Always seeking to go above and beyond, we reached out to the Akash team, to let them know that we were setting up the provider and that we wanted to document the process for the benefit of the community. The team loved the idea, and they decided to delegate over 500k AKT to our validator in recognition and support of our efforts.
Now with our own provider, SmartNodes.cloud, we are continuing our mission to secure and decentralize the Akash cloud and the world. Our provider is hosted in an independent data center and, of course, runs on enterprise-grade hardware.
We plan to release detailed guides and video tutorials on how to deploy to Akash, and how to set up your own provider as well in order to contribute to decentralization. If you have any questions on how to deploy to SmartNodes.cloud, please contact the team on Discord.
