How to setup Evmos Ledger Wallet using Metamask

Due to Evmos being an EVM chain, Metamask currently offers a better experience when it comes to compatibility with Evmos and Ledger. That said, Keplr has recently updated the extension to allow it to work with Ledger.

Steps to follow
Step -1 To set up MetaMask for Evmos, you will first need to head to https://metamask.io/ and download.
Click the button to download (I am using Brave; you should see your browser)
This will redirect you to the extension page for installation.
When you click to add to your browser you will get a pop-up like this
Step -2 Click Add Extension
You should be greeted with a welcome screen. Click Get Started.
On the next page, you will be asked if you want to help improve MM with anonymous data reporting. This is safe, but not required. You may accept or decline.
Now, unfortunately, you need a hot wallet setup to then set up your Ledger. (Silly, I know!)
Step -3 Click "Create a new wallet." (Unless you already have an ETH wallet, then you may import that if you wish, then skip further down)
You will then be prompted to create a password; keep this safe, or you’ll have to reimport your account via seed if you forget. (This works the same way as your Keplr password)
You will also have to accept the Terms of Service, so you should probably read them.
Once you’ve done this, you will be shown some important information about how to protect your seed.
Step -5 Click Next, and you will be given your recovery phrase. (You’ll have to reveal it)
Even if you won’t use this wallet, it’s advisable to keep it safe so you can import it again later. (In case you need to setup MetaMask again on another browser and they haven’t updated the process)
On the next screen, you will have to input your phrase by clicking the words below.
Once done, click Confirm
Step -6 You can now click "all done," and you’ll be redirected to your MetaMask dashboard, with your hot wallet on display.
Click on the top-right circle to the right of "Ethereum Mainnet," and a drop-down menu will appear like this:
Here you can finally pair your ledger. Click "Connect hardware wallet."
On this page that opens up, select Ledger.
Step -7 You will then be prompted to connect your device and open the Ethereum app (do so)
Allow your browser to access your ledger.
On the next page, you may see a list of five accounts; yours should be the top one. But you can check this in Kepler (select Evmos in the dropdown and you’ll have two addresses; the 0x... should match) or Ledger Live by going to the account section, selecting Ethereum, and pressing receive; this should prompt your Ledger to ensure the address is the correct one.
Step -8 Now that’s done, you should see two accounts on your drop-down list, one being your ledger and the other being the initial hot wallet. The only thing now is to connect to the Evmos network instead of the Ethereum network.
Step -9 Now at the top right, click the drop-down box where it says ‘Ethereum Mainnet’ and select ‘Add Network’
On the next screen, you can add an extra network (in this case, Evmos)
Step -10 The things that you need to enter are the chain ID and the currency symbol, which should be 9001 and EVMOS, respectively. The network name is actually for your reference, so it doesn’t matter. The other important thing to enter is the RPC.
You can search for RPCs at https://chainlist.org/ , we are going to use one provided by AgoraNodes at https://evmos-json-rpc.agoranodes.com
You may get a warning that the ChainID wasn’t found, but if you continue anyway, you should be fine.
Once this is added, your MetaMask should automatically connect to the network. Assuming you have an Evmos balance, you will see it represented the same in MetaMask as Keplr.
That’s it; you can now interact with your favourite Dapps using MetaMask. (At least for the ones that don’t work with Keplr yet.)
